On the radio this morning they were talking about Mother’s Day and all the celebrations. That, for some strange reason, got me to thinking about cake. Ever notice how when you are watching what you eat (meaning – trying to lose weight) cake is never on the menu? And as a result, we think about cake more than normal.
Think about it. If something is easy to do it’s a cake walk. Or it might even be a piece of cake. My favorite description is when something good happens on top of something good and it’s the frosting on the cake. I mean really, who would eat cake without frosting?
I must admit to being a bit picky about my cake eating. Don’t make white cake if you want to tempt me. I do like angel food cake especially with the glaze my Gramma used to make. I like yellow cake, but only if it has chocolate frosting. My mom used to make a sponge cake. I only slightly remember what it tasted like. I did find the recipe recently, so I might have to try it out.
Texas cake – mmmmmmmmmmmm. My sister-in-law’s famous three-layer chocolate cake that everyone requests for their birthday – even better than Texas. Really. When I was little, my favorite cake was devil’s food with 7 minute icing. The kind you beat until it gets a shiny look. I may need to hunt up this recipe, too.
Some people, sadly, think you can’t have your cake and eat it too. I’m with Marie on this one and say “Let them eat cake!”
I know there are lots of desserts out there, but for years cake has been the choice for birthdays, weddings, teas, and cups. Switching to pies? Well, that just takes the cake.
