Waiting patiently is a lost art these days. We want things now. Or sooner.
I remember my mom telling me that “good things come to those who wait.” We didn’t have a microwave when I was little, so I’d smell the cookies for 12-15 minutes before they ever came out of the oven. Of course, then you had to let them cool before dunking them in your milk and tasting the best chocolate chip cookies. But they were worth the wait.
We wait to hear the test results. We wait to see the corn come up. We wait for sleep to come. We wait to know if our offer was accepted. We wait to hear if we got the job. We wait for Mr. Right. We wait at stop lights. We wait in line. We wait to see the doctor. We wait for things to change. We wait for the time to arrive.
And we need to remember that – God’s timing is perfect.
So why is it so very hard to wait?

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” James 5:7-8
